Holidays are coming…

It’s nearly here!

It’s nearly here! Holidays are coming…and, along with them, the light returns. Tomorrow is, (arguably, for some) the shortest day. The world turns. The light starts to come back. Light at the end of another year when it felt at times like it was a train coming the other way.

Holidays are coming... A Christmas wish for all
A Christmas wish for all

A last post

This is my final post for this year and I wanted to leave you with an upbeat message. I was going to use some of my words, but when I looked at my old Christmas poems, I took fright! How miserable I must have been – my Christmases past a terrible plight! See what I did there?

The words of another

So, I went to the words of another for inspiration and this is what I found from a lovely collection at the Poetry Foundation. Some words I think you will like from Walter de la Mare. I went ‘old school’ just because I liked the sentiment of a ghostly kiss:

Mistletoe

BY WALTER DE LA MARE
Sitting under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
One last candle burning low,
All the sleepy dancers gone,
Just one candle burning on,
Shadows lurking everywhere:
Some one came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go
Nodding under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
No footsteps came, no voice, but only,
Just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,
Stooped in the still and shadowy air
Lips unseen—and kissed me there.

Wishing all well

This is my way of wishing you all well and hoping all have a healthy happy break wherever you are. Thanks to all for taking the time to read my posts. I’ll be back in the New Year with more posts and poems to share. Holidays are coming…
